Remedy is a medication dispensing carafe that incorporates the action of taking your medication with another routine that has to do with health and well-being: drinking water.

Following my preliminary research, I grew weary of the current solutions on the market. The solutions seemed cheap. Even the most advanced $800 machines were atrocities to behold and seemed to be quite unaware that they would be used daily for quite a large amount of time.

Here are a few features of the final design.

The proportions of Remedy are based on the golden ratio (1.618:1). Studies show (and the ancient Greeks agree) that this is the most pleasing proportion in existence.

Two chambers rotate and release the pills when it is time for them to be taken. There are interchangeable batteries for each as well. In addition to being able to dispense up to four doses per day every day, there is a more reduced setup that allows for one dose per day.

I set out to design a minimalist chromatic tuner that could easily fit the human hand, be configured in multiple ways on a surface and also nestle onto a music stand.

I decided on a darkened energy saving display that foregrounded the relevant pitch information using contrasting colors. I also was able to reduce the traditional four button tangible interface down to three buttons. One major problems with chromatic tuners is that they turn on in user’s cases. I solved this problem by incorporating a switch.

I was inspired by my own instrument (the violin) and the appearance of sheet music when creating the interfaces and in the material selection.

This is the identity that I developed for our 44th Anniversary show.
